Quantum computers may be able to break Bitcoin sooner than you think

Advances over the following decade might pave the best way for quantum computer systems highly effective sufficient to crack Bitcoin encryption, new analysis suggests.

Scientists from the College of Sussex within the UK estimate that quantum techniques with 13 million qubits could be enough to interrupt the cryptographic algorithm (SHA-256) that secures the Bitcoin blockchain throughout the area of 24 hours.
